The BT ‘Rethink the Risk’ research, highlights new opportunities and security risks. Among them are the risks posed by the growing presence of personal devices on corporate networks, known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).
The BYOD genie is clearly out of the bottle. 60% of employees say their employers permit them to connect personally-owned devices to the corporate network to use them for work.
BYOD is presenting new, unprecedented challenges, although the benefits are recognised as well. These new challenges are not only about security but also include costs and other uncertainties.
Overall, the research reveals that risks to enterprises are moving too fast for reactive security systems. Almost three-quarters of respondents describe cyber-security as a major concern and rank emerging threats alongside established cyber-security challenges.
BYOD: a challenge, a risk and an opportunity
BYOD is in the same threat league as cyber-security. BYOD is also heralding a new model of IT where barriers between the individual and workplace, and everything is linked together by the corporate network.
The report shows enterprise IT departments recognise that their approach to cyber-security needs and upgrade.
