From the desk of Manuel Arias: GTM in Europe

Time passes quickly!  More than true: it seems just yesterday that we were closing the 2012-13 finance numbers and contracts, and today we’ve already almost finished Q1.

Very interesting month, this past May. GTM attended ITW with 14 delegates from around the globe, plus two from BT Wholesale, running in excess of 250 meetings.  More than 5000 delegates participated with us, hundreds of carriers looking after the wholesale business.

This shows that our business is healthier than ever, as former US Vice President Al Gore said in his speech to kick off ITW.  The next day in the C100 Session, delegates learned the results of the Capacity Magazine survey of senior executives from the top 100 telecoms service providers: 76% of survey respondents are confident or very confident about the next 12 months in the industry. BT is working hard to deliver the Miami node for our Global IP Exchange platform this summer.  You may remember that I told you about it in the previous issue of “Let’s Talk GTM”.

At International Telecoms Week (ITW) in Chicago in May, my colleague Mike Bygate signed Cincinnati Bell, who asked to be the first customer connected to the new node.

Talking about the growing number of BT IP Exchange nodes, Isabelle Paradis, president of analyst firm HOT TELECOM, said, “BT is taking a good commercial approach to rolling out its Global IP Exchange offer: taking advantage of its network reach to implement IPX gradually as demand develops region by region.” [Read more...]

From the desk of Mabs Khan: GTM in MEA

Please allow me to introduce myself: I’m the regional director, Middle East & Africa, for BT GTM international sales and consultancy. We developed this new function within the region by listening to feedback from customers like you.  They asked for a simpler approach to the way we offered our services to them.

My colleague Will Bruce, who previously led the sales function, has now moved on to another part of GTM. I’d like to thank him for the great platform he built for us to continue to serve you and our other clients.

I’ve had the opportunity of working in the telecoms consultancy and sales sector for the past 19 years, ten of them in international markets. I’m based in Dubai, UAE.  But as you can guess, I spend a lot of my time travelling to see clients across the region, along with members of my team based in sub-regional offices or at client sites. From the desk of Will Bruce: GTM in Northern, Southern, Central & Eastern Europe

This has been an exciting few months with the start of the new financial year for us and many of our customers.  The many conferences we attended ranged from Caspian Telecoms and Capacity Balkans to International Telecoms Week (ITW) in Chicago.

ITW represents the biggest event of the year for BT Global Telecom Markets. This year’s conference was one of the best to date.  Much of the conversation reflected the accelerating change and innovation within the industry as operators move more and more into the IP world. In-depth discussions covered what this means to operators and the opportunities that will open up with true interoperability of services.

We met many new and existing customers at this conference, where much of the conversation focused on our BT Global IP exchange.  Not simply the transition from TDM to IP but IP Interoperability, the value-added services that it will enable and the roadmap to HD Voice, SIGTRAN, and LTE roaming with 4G diameter signaling. From the desk of Paul Fuertsch: GTM in US & Canada

The editor of “Let’s Talk GTM” interviews Paul Fuertsch to introduce him to readers.  With BT for nearly six years, he came to BT Global Telecom Markets (GTM) as a senior deal architect and now manages its US & Canada initiative.

What attracted you to GTM, Paul?

I’d spent more than 20 years selling industry-leading value-added services to clients like BT around the globe.  When the US &Canada team of GTM approached me, it looked like a wonderful opportunity, full of growth potential and challenges.

Plus BT as a company was very interesting. As the oldest telecommunications operator, BT boasted a strong and unique worldwide brand, rich capabilities, diverse teams, and services in virtually every international market. Of course, that’s even more true today than when I joined. [Read more...]
