The food sector has faced a barrage of issues recently. Much of it is summarized in this report launched recently by Oxfam America called “Behind the Brands”. The report analyses the largest food companies (in the interests of full transparency many of them are BT customers) across a range of sustainability dimensions, including nutrition and obesity, environment, tracing and trust, poverty and international development. Earlier this year, I volunteered to help out for a day on a digital inclusion project called Race Online. This project was created to help around 10 million UK citizens who don’t have access to the world of digital opportunities most of us take for granted. For some of these people, they choose not to be online because they don’t understand how it could help or benefit them. For others, they simply don’t have that choice – maybe because of disability or a lack of money, education, employment, or language skills.
My day was to be spent at a multi-cultural women’s centre in the Midlands – a centre where women (and men) from different cultural backgrounds can meet, get support, and learn new skills. Before I set off that morning, I asked my teenage children for some ideas on interesting and helpful websites. They suggested sites such as Wikipedia, money saving expert, trainline, and cinema opening times. This turned out to be a wasted exercise. My help was required at a far more basic level. Bidding has gone live in the eBay BT ArtBox charity auction – launched today from a shark tank at the SEA LIFE London Aquarium.
The international art auction – being held in support of ChildLine in its 25th Anniversary year – is the culmination of the BT ArtBox project.
This London-wide open-air exhibition – involving more than 80 leading artists, designers, sculptors and architects – was launched earlier this year to celebrate an important part of Britain’s design heritage. [Read more...]
A traditional red phone box transformed by model and actress Lily Cole was the centrepiece at a gala reception to celebrate BT ArtBox.
Lily – together with leading artists and designers – have been asked to put their own artistic twist on the classic red box for the BT ArtBox project, which is taking over London this summer, to help raise funds for ChildLine’s 25th anniversary.
Lily was joined by guests including BT Ambassador for London 2012 Kelly Holmes, and ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen, at the reception, held at the Dorchester Hotel. [Read more...]
Taking a fresh twist on the phrase ‘painting the town red’, BT is using replicas of its classic red phone box to decorate London to celebrate this eventful year — before auctioning off the artistic boxes in support of ChildLine.
