Western European private cloud market poised for significant growth

The expected growth of private cloud in Western Europe for the next five years looks impressive. Especially, when taking into account the economic situation, the growth rate of 23.2% (CAGR or Compound Annual Growth Rate) is remarkable.

These and more data can be found in what research firm IDC calls an ‘industry-first study looking in-depth at private cloud from hardware, software, services and networking points of view’.

IDC emphasizes western European private cloud growth until 2016 is not driven by hype but by business goals such as cost reduction and efficiency. [Read more...]

Big Data and cloud computing demand in Western European utilities

In a recent post, we briefly mentioned IDC’s report on Big Data. The research firm now found Big Data increases the appetite for cloud computing among Western European utilities in an industry-specific report.

It shows that, while utilities traditionally have been rather conservative in their information systems infrastructure and regarding cloud computing, the mood is changing. These changes go hand in hand with nascent transformations within the industry, IDC says.

Big Data is a driver for cloud computing in the industry as well. 46.2% of Western European utilities are positive that cloud computing would be able to solve Big Data issues. [Read more...]

Big data equals big spending

According to IDC, the market of big data technology and services will grow to approximately €12.9 billion in 2015. That’s a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40% or seven times the growth of the overall ICT market spent.

IDC says that the growth in cloud, outsourcing and appliances deals for big data technology will lead to an increased focus on business value arguments instead of technology capabilities over time.

The company identifies system performance, security, manageability and capabilities as the main focus areas. Mainly software and services make up the bulk of the market opportunity through 2015, IDC adds, with a leading rile for storage. [Read more...]

New IDC data show the mobile workforce is not a fad

According to a new report by IDC, there are over one billion mobile workers. They don’t have to report to work every day in a shirt and tie. They don’t even have to leave their homes to do their jobs on a daily basis.

Some of them report a few times a week to an office, others never set foot in an office. The rapid growth of the mobile workforce is not a fad, as IDC projects that by 2015 over 1.3 billion employees will be working in mobile ways.

This is a staggering 37.2 percent of what is anticipated to be the world’s entire workforce. [Read more...]

Public and private cloud infrastructure needs boost storage demand

Cloud computing is predicted to grow enormously in the next five years, with a clear effect on IT spending, IDC says. An area that will be impacted strongly is storage, the research firm found.

This will mainly be caused by public cloud service providers and companies that have adopted private cloud environments investing in their infrastructure, mainly storage hardware, software, and services.

IDC forecasts that expenditure by public cloud service providers in storage will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 23.6% between 2010 and 2015. [Read more...]

The evolution of the mobile workforce: infographic and data

The workforce is increasingly mobile, in all dimensions. As Dr. Nicola Millard recently wrote “with the Wifi wings to get them into the cloud, employees can potentially work anywhere, with any device – work becomes a state of mind rather than a place now”.

Mobility also affects the work floor: an increasing number of employees brings their personal mobile devices along and uses them for business purposes as well. [Read more...]
